I love this book! Not just a collection of pretty pictures of gardens, (although there are lots of them) this book actually helps you to think through your own designs. Tons of clever ideas provide a starting point, and her helpful hints can save you from a great many "learning" experiences figuring out why what you have isn't what you want.

Great kid's book

I meant to buy the full book and got this one by mistake because I didn't read the description. That being said, this is written on a kid reading level, and my 7 year old had virtually no problems with it (other than the made up Star Wars words that she needed help reading). It's good quality and has pictures from the movie in it to go with the story. Overall she really enjoyed reading it.

Everybody use a blue laser sword!

This is a great book for anyone who is a Star Wars fanatic. While there are some differences in character descriptions in this book it is mostly unimportant. You get a much better feeling of what emotions the characters are going through during different scenes. You also get a much better idea of the lessons Yoda puts Luke through, as well as a better feel of time passing during the relationship. The movie always made it seem that a couple days go by, but the book somewhat shows more time passing.

I was a little dissapointed with the ending of the book. It may just be me but it felt less intense than the rest of the writing. However, Darth Vader's emotional attack on Luke is explained beautifully.

Anyone who wishes to feel a more detailed example of how much emotion and manipulation is involved towards Luke from both Yoda and Vader should definitely pick up this book

My Grandpa wrote this book

My Grandpa wrote this book, and on a whim I thought I'd look it up and see if people were interested in it. I was suprised to see it was even listed on Amazon.com .

I used to sell these books door to door in the neighborhood for $5.00 a piece. They came with an iron-on Sivler Spurs and a 45 record.

My Grandpa died when I was about eight or nine, and I never realized that people loved this book. I hardly have any memories of my Grandpa because he lived out-of-state, but I'm glad to see that people enjoyed his story.

I remember as a child President Ronald Reagan mailed my Grandpa an autographed picture and a letter thanking him for writing the book. I was too young to remember but I assume he read it to his children.

Anyway, it's nice to see that people appreciate the book. I was happy to find it on Amazon.com.

Silver Spurs is AWESOME!

I agree with other reviews... this is one of the most special books ever.... this story hit the AP wire in 1974 and was published a year later. Knigge had a float in the Gimbels Thankgiving parade celebrating the character. He donated thousands of copies to libraries. The illustrations are remarkable... the pages are wax coated and crayon proof.... the cover is fire retardant and tear resistant... These books look as good today as they did out of print. No yellowing or fading. My father, the author, would be so proud to know that 20 years after his passing, people would still be writing reviews, exchanging copies, and including it in their Christmas tradition. He most of all wanted this story to endure and indeed it has as long as even one of us continues to read it. Thanks - Paul Knigge.

Happy Christmas Memories

One of my favorite Christmas memories when I was a kid was when, at Christmastime, my mom would pull out our copy of Silver Spurs and read to us. The story is perfect for inquisitive little ones who just don't understand how Santa can get into the house without a chimney. Spending most of my childhood in the Southwest, chimneys can be hard to come by. I can't wait until I am able to share this classic with my little ones, and am sad to read that it is now out of print. Thankfully my mom knows how special it is, so she had kept it all these years.

Good but not Night Angel Good

I loved the Night Angel Trilogy. It may be my favorite book series of them all, which is why the graphic novel did leave me a bit disappointed. I know that some things have to be lost in the compression of a book to another form of media, but for me, those losses eat away at what would have been a five star rating otherwise. The entire exclusion of the Serah subplot, as well as Magdalene, means the removal of those characters from the next book as well, which removes a large amount of the personal tragedy that Kylar experiences. In other places, it simply means the loss of some trademark humor or simply the depth of the characters.

For the standard reader, it's a great novel, but for fans of the series, it falls just a bit short.

Cool perspective on a great series

The original book is one of my favorite fantasy fiction reads. Reading this in comic book form was actually really cool and I love the idea. Although I had a somewhat different picture of the characters and world in my head, this gave me an interesting perspective of what the author and artist wanted to create in their own minds. Also, I read the book many years ago, so this was a really nice refresher, which helped when I read the novella, The Perfect Shadow relating to Durzo's character. I really hope this Graphic Novel series continues through the entire Night Angel Trilogy as I really enjoyed this. The only complaint I would have is that I wish it were in color rather than black and white, since that would probably make it a little more palpable.

Update (4/17/15):
As a clarification, this book is a graphic novel version of only the first book of the original trilogy.

I am pretty sure that if you don't read the novel you ...

I wish the panels were in color. After reading the book and seeing the begging of the graphic novel, I am pretty sure that if you don't read the novel you will still love the graphic novel. However, I reccomend reading the novel "The Way of Shadows". It will pull you in. It single handedly brought me into the world of fantasy reading.
