A Spanish teacher must have

Spanish Teacher's Book of Instant Word Games: Over 160 Ready-To-Use Activities, Puzzles, and Worksheets for Grades 7-12 by Josephine Carre�o is a must. Besides the many activities (that can be photocopied) to make a unit fun or to leave activities for a sub at the last minute, the unit about cognates is very thorough. It expands students vocabulary because it helps them recognize how many words Spanish and English have in common. It's also a tool for better reading comprehension because they learn also about false cognates at the end of the unit. Unit 1 is all about geography and includes a vocabulary of different words for the same object in different countries. My only criticism is the illustrations; they are not very attractive and some are rather obscure. From a teachers perspective this book is a good addition to any Spanish class.

Disappointed

I teach level 1 and 2 Spanish. I was very disappointed that I will not have a use for this book after I paid so much for it. The activities do not align with my text vocab or my State Standards. Some of the puzzles are confusing and the difficulty is beyond the 7 -12 ability. In order to use many of the activities I would have to modify them to the point that it is no longer worth it. If I had had the opportunity to preview the book first I would have never bought it. Shame too, because I am sure a lot of work went into putting it together.

too hard for lower levels, illustrations and print too old

I am always looking for ideas, and the price was OK, but the contents are really old and presented in an old-fashioned way, without graphic diagrams, charts or images. I can't use it with my Middle School kids. The type of print is like an old type writer, small and dry, and the illustrations appear handmade without much detail or description. Not useful for early High School either, when their attention is still so visually directed; also the levels and structures do not fit in with current contextual structure teaching. I kept it just in case, and because the shipping makes it cost more than it is all worth, but I would not buy it, and I will be reluctant to buy another book without the "look inside" feature

THE ONLY GUIDE TO MARKETING YOU'LL EVER NEED

When I decided to cross-register from classes at Harvard Law School to those at Harvard Business School, I asked a friend who was publisher of the Harvard Business Review what I should take. He advised me to take marketing, because the second year classes were the same as the first year ones. I soon found myself dealing with simple problems of how to market Heinz Ketchup. I did well in marketing at Harvard Business School, but most of what I learned about marketing I learned from reading this book. I now practice as a management consultant, and I constantly find clients who do not understand what marketing management should be all about. I constantly encourage them to read this book. In fact, in my stock-price improvement practice, much of what I did initially was to apply Kotler's principles to the idea of marketing a stock. The model worked, and I have found that part of Kotler's thinking also applies to solving nonmarketing problems. I have a hard time imagining a better book can come out to replace this one. There are individual works that are excellent in a narrow segment (such as POSITIONING and THE 22 IMMUTABLE LAWS OF BRANDING), but you need the big picture. MARKETING MANAGEMENT is a perfect book for that purpose, whether for student, intern, assistant brand manager, head of marketing, or CEO. If I may make one suggestion: Have those who have nothing to do with marketing read this book. That will give your organization a better way of sharing information and ideas for improving what you offer customers.

I have gone through this book during my MBA at Lahore, Pakistan. It is an excellent book on advanced Marketing. Those who have basic knowledge of Marketing and now seeking for advanced knowledge must read this book.

A good book on marketing if you are in US

Marketing requires learning and practicing. It is not only a business, but also a social as well as cultural subject. A lot of cultural issues are involved in practising marketing. As a book, this gives you a firm foundation on concepts. It is wonderful - provided you are able to understand examples mentioned. For we in India, most of the examples are alien. Also recent developments in online marketing ( like that of Amazon) find no mention. Interestingly these type of internet based examples can be experienced globaly. It is a good book to build your marketing foundations. Asian, European students, however will have to learn a lot outside the book. I hope that future editions of this book take in to account the differences in social and cultural settings across the globe. This limitation reduces the value of this book to those students. That is why my rating is 4 star

Realism From A Sailor's Perspective

This isn't a soliloquy on the sea or the romantic life of a seaman off to see the world rather it is a water-eyed view of a sailor as he leaves home and all that is familiar to face the fear of all things new. It isn't written by a master writer but in the simplistic terms as experienced by Seaman Bowers. These are the experiences that later shaped an outstanding citizen, husband, father and church leader. It's a simple read, but watch out for those surprise turns that will leave you wondering. I really enjoyed Memoirs of a World War ll Destroyer Escort Sailor and I believe you will as well.

It answered questions I never got to ask my father.

My late father served in the Navy during World War II but we never had a chance to discuss his experiences. I often look out at the ocean and wonder what went through his mind as a teenager away from home for the very first time and suddenly finding himself out of sight of land. Bill Bowers' book answered a lot of questions I would like to have asked my dad and it preserves history in the first person account of one who experienced it first-hand. Thank you, Mr. Bowers, for the education.
